The Glass
Through the glass I stare
As the city walks by
As others peer in
Some catch a glimpse of me, for who I am
Others, though, see their own reflection
That colours their perception
I am understood only through the shades of their own understanding
And not at all for the bare transparency I present
I choose to hide behind glass
And speak in transparency
Yet, it seems the rest don’t agree
But proclaim my naivety
Courage to dream and wonder
Like a child’s outrageous fantasy
What once was a castle in the sky
Might one day be a reality
For vision, aspiration and ambition are but names used to justify a grown-up’s dreams
That were once little different from a child’s simplest hope and marvel
The glass evokes thought, emotion and rememberance
Because through it, I see and I am seen
The world passes on
As I look on out the glass
My heart is tangled up in a confusion
That is guised by fear and longing
Which cannot be resolved by careful intellect or wise words
Quenched neither by companionship nor in power
Where peace is found in One and One alone
Why are we brittle, when we were created to be strong?
Why do we shatter, when we can't get along?
Why should we sing, when everything's so wrong?
But when we're broken we're reliant
Where we're weak He is strong
But when we're in a billion pieces
We're really in One
